job description

My Job Profile

My Company: I work for a hot tub manufacturer.

Job/Career Overview: An average day for me starts as soon as I arrive, when calls start coming in. My day mostly revolves around customer service and answering the phone. I also assist the Human Resources department in any way they specify -- filing, mailing letters or other documents, running errands if needed and checking the company's email account for information inquiries.

But the phones are my main concern, and I stay close to them all day. When I answer, I figure out who needs to take the call or who will help the customer the best. This can be challenging, since sometimes the person who the customer is asking to talk to is actually not the best person.

As far as mailings go, I deal with everything from invoices and bills to Christmas cards. I usually send out quite a few in one day. I also match invoices with documentation of delivery for the billing department, so we do not overpay anyone or pay for items that we didn't receive.

What I Love or Hate

The best part of my job is that I more or less work alone and it's a fairly simple job. I also can manage my own time, as long as my tasks are completed on time. I also can be creative when the Human Resources department gives me a letter or card that needs to be designed and mailed.

The worst part is an aspect of the best part: I have to stay near the phone all day long, and that can be inconvenient sometimes.

My Career Tips

This is not the career I got my bachelor's for, but due to the economy, I took the job and have worked in the same line for two years. Multi-tasking is essential. An ability to handle people is essential. Also, being able to keep your head when things get busy is important and being able to work well on a computer. There are many computer-based programs that you will use on a daily basis.
