job description

My Job Profile

My Company: My company services residential and commercial customers with keeping their property clean and organized.

Job/Career Overview: I own a cleaning service with my twin sister. That in and of itself is a treat to work with someone each day that I love and respect. It is not easy working with family, but she and I have a special relationship and it works well for us. I am responsible for advertising our company, answering phone calls, going to appointments to give estimates and scheduling out the work to our employees.

I am also responsible for the day to day communication between our employees and our customers. It is very important that I relay all the information possible to make everyone happy. We provide a service and that is what people are paying for. I check the cleaners work and I make sure they have everything needed to make their job as smooth as possible. We have 30 employees and I like to have an open communication with them. The happier our employees are the better their work is for our customers.

I also submit weekly payroll to my sister who cuts checks through our Quick Books system at our office. This way we save our money by not using a payroll company to produce our checks each week. I am also responsible to communicate with my sister all the end of the month information on each customer so our billing can be done in a timely manner. My sister does all the data entry for the invoicing. The quicker you get your billing processed, the faster the money comes in each month.

I love what I do because I am busy all day long. It is also a huge plus working for yourself when you have a family. I can drop our children off at school each day and pick them up. That really is priceless to be able to spend as much time with our children as possible. They are only this age once and there is no going back once they are grown up.

More Insights: I know that the biggest misconception about my career is that your the "cleaning lady". For some people who do this career they feel less than someone else. That of course is not true. I know that no matter what you do in your life, you must take great pride in what you do. It will affect every way you do something. Remember that what you do and how you do it will always represent you. Be proud of who and what you are. Your work will never fail if that is how you do anything. Believe in yourself.

Love It? Hate It?

job satisfaction rating
I rate this career 10 out of 10.

What I Love or Hate

The best part of my job is that I am my own boss. I can make my own schedule and I have the flexibility to be there for my children. I love that I can spend my time with the kids and do their homework with them and just talk on our ride home.

The worst part of my job is taking the phone calls of customers that are not happy with your employees work that day. Since we do provide a service it is tough when your employee does not deliver. I do understand that we are all human and we all have bad days.

My Career Tips

My biggest advice is to do what you love to do. I went to school to be in the criminal justice field. When I graduated from college, I realized that was not what I wanted to do. I had worked for a company through college that gave me an opportunity to work for them in property management after I graduated. I took the job and realized that I loved it and that I was busy all day long and I liked to deliver a good product for people each day. I am glad I went to college but this was what I wanted to do.
